Molluscum Contagiosum is a harmless skin condition caused by a virus. The virus is mainly spread by close skin to skin contact, this includes sexual contact. It may be possible to get them from towels and clothing.

The time from when the virus lands on the skin to when the spots appear, varies from one-six months. This period of time is called the incubation period and the spots may not appear all at the same time.

It is not unusual to pass it from one family member to another, or children to pass it around at schools and nurseries.
