If you think you have scabies you need to have a check-up as soon as the signs or symptoms appear or if you think you have been in contact with scabies.
If it is difficult to see any visible signs so you may need to re attend the sexual health clinic for another appointment.
It is advisable to have a full sexual health screen if you feel you may have been in contact with a sexually transmitted infection.
A doctor or nurse may be able to tell you just from looking at the affected area(s), or they may take a flake of skin to look at under the microscope and see if they can see a mite.
Tests taken within a sexual health clinic are treated confidentially, a unique clinic number being issued and used in place of a name for each person attending. Results can be accessed in whichever way is most convenient, whether this is via text, email, telephone, mail, phoning into clinic or via another person (e.g. friend)
